A Winter Coat: How to Invest Smart
A good winter coat is a true investment piece. You don’t need to be flash with the cash to buy one, you just need to be smart to your budget and get the coat that will keep you warm winter after winter.

For me, a winter coat is always worth the investment. I always buy the very best coat that I can for my money – no matter how tight that may be. This is because a winter coat should last the distance. For me, it is not a fast fashion, trend-led piece. It is something to treasure and cherish. After all, if you treat your clothes well, they’ll be with you for a while.
So, when shopping for a new winter coat, I’ve created some simple to follow rules that help me get the most out of my money.
Choose a classic colour. A colour that will go with every other item in your wardrobe. Sticking to neutral tones (and yes, leopard is a neutral) will help with this as camel, beige, leopard, black and grey go with everything. However, if you already have a fairly monochromatic wardrobe then a bright pop of colour can really compliment.
Stick to Classic Shapes.A wrap coat, pea coat, or double breasted coat is unlikely to go out of style or look dated. They also look just as good thrown over ripped jeans and an oversized jumper as they do over a black tie dress.
Choose the highest wool percentage possible.Sticking to natural fibres means that your coat will be warmer. Wool is self cleaning, well insulated, and last longer than most polyester blends. Therefore, the higher percentage of wool found in your coat the warmer it will be and the longer it will last. Contrary to popular belief, more wool content doesn’t always mean more money so compare composition labels before choosing which coat to invest in.
Shop in the spring/summer.I often buy a winter coat in the spring sale. This means I get better quality for my money. I then simply keep it in storage until the weather gets colder again. I tend to look at higher end hughstreet sales for this –Jaegaris my favourite.
Shop second-hand.Ebayis fantastic for shopping for second-hand coats. Save your search and receive updates when new items are added and you should be able to pick up a beautiful winter coat for a fraction of the price. Again, I look for higher end items from shops likeJaegar,Cos, andHobbs. They’ll be timeless pieces and will definitely last!

Sales is the best time to buy coats! I picked myself one from £70 to £35 and its the warmest I have ever owned. your so hot in summer that you dont think about buying coats, but at that price it is an investment for the future.
I have always struggled with finding the perfect winter coats. I like the camel coat with side paneling, truly appreciate a twist on a classic, double-breasted piece. I love the cream colour of the Asos coat, I wish it was slighlty more fitted, though. And if Sex Machines could merge these two coats, I would be the happiest 🙂
